Revell 1/375 USS Montrose/Randall Attack Transporter WW2 (05018)

Good model of one of the work horses of the WW2 Pacific and the later Korean campaign.

Plastic kit with one piece waterline hull, detailed deck superstructures, decks & separate armament, 12.5 cm cannon and 200 mm twin cannon, life rafts, masts, cargo booms & 15 detailed landing craft. Decals with extensive markings including the landing craft for both the USS Montrose and the USS Randall. Paint and glue required seperately.

The troop transport ships of the Arenac Class played an important role in the liberation of occupied territories by the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. The task of this combination transport/landing ship was to take the troops as close as possible to the shore, to transfer them in the landing craft that were also carried and to supervise the landing operation. The on-board facilities could accommodate 1560 men, in addition to which 3000 tonnes of material could be transported. The USS Montrose went into service on 2nd November 1944 and took part in the landing on Kerama Retto in March 1945, and later in the capture of Okinawa. She was also used in the Korean War and remained active in Vietnam in a supply support role until 1969. The USS Randall went into service on 16th December 1944 and headed for Iwo Jima, the Eniwetok Atoll and Pearl Harbour on its first voyage. On her second tour of duty to Okinawa she later assisted in the evacuation of Korea
