The Massachusetts, a battleship of the South Dakota class, went into service on 12.5.1942. She was given the nickname "Big Mamie" and, with her enormous fire power, took part in 11 battles, first off North Africa (Morocco) and later in the Pacific. Since 1967 she has been anchored in the Fall River as a museum ship.
